CHANEL CRUISE 2014-15 Chanel is packed and ready to go to the newly minted destination of Dubai, UAE. It was announced that Chanels next cruise collection would be shown and staged in Dubai on an island off the city’s coast called “The Island”. The staging will be an indoor / outdoor hybrid. Expect to see colors of the desert sand, Caftans and lots of embroideries, jewels and pearls. Arab wives are known for their love affair with anything that’s blinged out and bedazzled. Karl Lagerfeld’s staging is always a sight to behold and this one should be no different. His past collection was shown in Dallas where he presented a Hoedown. Past locales includes Singapore, Cap du Antibes and St. Tropez. We...

Paris Fall 2014

PARIS FALL 2014 Paris is burning. The fall collection has been presented and the top trends have emerged. The Fashion world always looks to Paris to cross that T and dot that I. Below are my favorite looks for Paris Fall 2014. DRIES VAN NOTEN Dries fall collection was a lesson in Optical illusion, gone are the feathers, maximum embroideries and details. Fall 2014 is streamlined, simple and detailed enough to keep the Dries woman joyous until Spring 2015. The Dries woman is an adventuress, drawing colors, shapes and ideas from different cultures and times. A man's style coat is exquisitely designed with psychedelic swirls and stripes and worn with a 3D corsage NINA RICCI Peter COPPING is doing a fantastic job at Nina Ricci....

Haute Couture’s youth quake

COUTURE GOES POP Youth is a wonderful thing. For the first time in couture history, designers presented sporty sneaker in a realm of stiletto and lady like heels. Maybe the point that is meant to be made is that Haute Couture is young, hip and fresh for 2014 and beyond. Raf Simons of Dior and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel presented sport like concoctions. At Dior, their version was embroidered with multicolored flowers and made of a mesh like fabric, like the cutout organza dresses they were shown with. At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld sneakers were made of tweed and Python, veiled in lace and embroidered with pearls. The press release states that it took 30 hours to make. A Chanel ready to wear...

Hunger Games

Alexander McQueen at the Hunger Games As they say in the world of fashion, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. Such is the case with the Wardrobe choices for Effy played by Elizabeth Banks, in the Hunger games “Catching Fire”. Alexander McQueen ruffled organza dress; Butterfly dress and white organza ruffled gown were all from the archives of Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2010, Spring Summer 2011, and Fall Winter 2012. In all its ruffled organza glory, McQueen was clearly the star. The choices of shoes was from the Collection “Plato’s Atlantis” designed by Lee himself along with choices from the fall Winter 2012 collection designed by Sarah Burton. It’s a pleasure to see Hollywood embrace high fashion, as high as...

The state of Fashion Its December as I write, the fall runway collections have recently been delivered and it has already been reduced by 40 % at major department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom etc. The proprietors at Blake are complaining that a particular Givenchy runway dress has just been delivered 3 weeks ago and its already been marked down at Saks. This is the plight of fashion in today’s fast paced world of multiple designer collections. For any particular major designer, such as, Alexander Wang of Balenciaga, there is the Fall Collection, Pre fall Collection, Resort, Spring Collection, Pre Spring collection, Capsule collection, Accessories, to name a few, not including haute Couture spring Summer and Fall Winter,...
