Suzy Menkis, “THE CIRCUS OF FASHION” The peacock and the crow

“EDITORS AND BLOGGERS” “ THE DOUBLE EDGED SWORD” This is a rebuttal to Suzy Menkes’s New York Times article ,”The Circus of Fashion” The Crows and the Peacock. I’ve admired Madam Menkis writing techniques for many years. She is, of course, much older and in some cases much wiser than myself. I read with bubbling anger and interest, Suzy Menkes’s article separating editors and bloggers. In a sense we are all Journalists, Suzy went to Journalism school and us bloggers possess the good taste and knowledge of how to spot a good thing when we see it. In my travel to the Fall Collections in Paris in February, bloggers congregate at the garden path of the Tuilleries, which...

Spring Fashion, “LET IT SHINE”

Springs been here. Get a dose of the high life. Put a little gloss in your life. Shine the spotlight on the glossiest peices for spring summer. The spring collection was awashed in glossed up metallic looks. Burberry led the way with a metallic collection realized in trench coats and leather goods. In todays portfolio I styled Matthew Richardson and Erica Miramontes . I Absolutely love to mix colors and patterns. The more severe the better. On Erica I chose a Chloe dress with a Marni metallic lined leather jacket accessorized with Erickson Beamon jewelled Plexi necklace with chain. On Mattew I chose Burberry metallic foil cardigan and Balenciaga V neck top. Together they merged into a beautiful...

Daily Obsession, THE BURBERRY TRENCH

This week’s daily obsession is the Burberry trench, a dolled up, glammed up rendition of the basic pedestrian trench. Christopher Bailey, the current artistic director of the brand, introduced it. Each season a different design of the iconic trench is introduced to rave reviews, be it lacquered, studded or deconstructed. The iconic trench is currently one of Burberrys top seller. Share my obsession of the Burberry Trench. Visit Burberry or Burberry.com. Tell them I sent you.   ...

Spring fashion mens, “THE INTERESTING MAN”

Spring is here. We’ve been saying that, but it really is here. It’s a mans world and we just live in it. Spring is all about interest. An interesting way of being, and a way of putting a look together. It’s a good thing to see a man dressed like a man and dressed interestingly. Interesting meaning, a bit rakish, a bit different and interestingly enough to garner a double take. I firmly believe that a mans wardrobe requires the right mixture of complex, interesting pieces and simple key pieces to form the right balance of interest. Men’s wardrobe is sometimes placed in a box and it is sort of my job to extract it out of that dull box and shed...

Spring Fashion “WHITE IS RIGHT”

Spring is here, and there is no better color than spring summer white.Editors and magazines always promote White as a top trend for spring summer. In my book, White is a staple for spring and summer , a requisite for a season of light , warmth and soaring temperatures. For this post we chose, not any white , but the most amazing whites from the most amazing designers. In styling any shoot , I try very hard to find the most interesting looks. Something that has amazing detail or amazing simplicity that speaks volume. In this portfolio we feature Comme Des Garcons assymetrical top worn with Lanvin patent hat and Moschino studded cotton sheath. Both looks are at...

Daily obsession.

My look of the day is something im absolutely obsessed with. The Dress. In this case the Lanvin dress. It's a key look for spring. I saw this on the rack at Ikram and knew it would make an amazing picture. Its Lanvin perforated belted dress with expose seam. Because of its stiffness , it hangs well, away from the lower body created a sort of pouf, adding to its sculptural beauty . This was photographed by T. Harrison Hillman. model, Cayley K at Ford. Hair and makeup-Nika Vaughn. Styled by , yours truely. Cayley is 13 years old with an interesting face.Lanvin perforated dress at Ikram. Do tell her I sent you. Patric ...

How to dress like an editor

Roksanda illincisspring dress,To wear the looks in the above post takes Guts, Good taste, An eye for major detail and The ability to combine colors like a pro . As a stylist, this is the way I choose to express my genius in color and pattern mixing. My stint at Christian Lacroix in the 1990's taught me this and then some. The ability to mix colors and pattern is a Lacroix trait. I’d like to think that he invented it. In my travels to review the collections, be it the Ready to wear or the Haute Couture collections, it’s always a pleasure to see editors, buyers and stylists dressed exactly like this. It does take nerve of steel and a...
